Resting peacefully beside the Salish Sea, Sidney, British Columbia is Vancouver Island’s first point of welcome for travellers who arrive on the Saanich Peninsula by sea or by air. Our climate is the mildest in Canada, which makes our breathtaking natural surroundings even more enjoyable.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Located on the Southern tip of Vancouver Island, Sidney is accessible by air, land and sea. Fly into the Victoria International Airport (YYJ) or sail from Vancouver and the Southern Gulf Islands via BC Ferries to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal (walk on or bring your car). Washington State Ferries also brings foot passengers and cars directly to Sidney from Anacortes, WA.
Sidney is a flat, walkable community featuring a 3.6 kilometer scenic walkway along the waterfront. You can venture further afield by bicycle, rental car or public transit.

Take a wine tour through the rich Peninsula farmlands, day trip to Salt Spring Island, learn to sail, crab off the Sidney Fishing Pier, or explore the 9.3 kilometer bicycle path around the Victoria Airport. Or, simply spend an entire day exploring the downtown art galleries and boutiques. At the end of each day, enjoy some of the finest cuisine on Vancouver Island, followed by a movie at Sidney’s Star Cinema or an exciting stage production at the Mary Winspear Centre.
Families will enjoy playgrounds, a skateboard and water spray park, beachcombing, water sports, and the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea aquarium. There’s even a 20 hectare forested campground right in town. If you time your visit right, you can ride the model trains at nearby Heritage Acres, or join the locals to enjoy exciting community events that take place throughout the year.
