      Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the Hospitality Cook joins a multi-faceted team working in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Beacon Community Services. The Hospitality Cook is responsible for organizing, preparing, and implementing two (2) meals per day for the 21 Residents at Parry Place Assisted Living Residence. The Hospitality Cook is responsible for adhering to Dieticians directions, respecting the choices and sensitivities, as well as implementing texture modifications required for the Residents. Candidates would be well suited for this position if they have a background engaging with seniors and cooking for the demographic.

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
      • Prepares and uses a dietician approved 4 week cycle menu which includes 2 meals and 2 snacks daily, meets Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating requirements, includes a variety of color, flavor, texture & seasonal interest and considers the cultural sensitivities of the Residents.
      • Serves family style meals and strives to make meals appealing and mealtimes enjoyable.
      • Adapts meals accordingly regarding diet and texture modifications as required in Resident Care Plans.
      • Maintains kitchen, dining room, common areas and food storage areas in tidy, hygienic and safe manner including monitoring food storage, stand times and temperatures according to licensing requirements with high degree of compliance to sanitation of food preparation areas.
      • Provides assistance in the Dining Room with meal set up and preparation, as well as meal delivery and clean up as necessary.
      • Contributes to a weekly ordering list in a timely, organized manner.
      • Contributes to a monthly menu of lunch and dinners
      • Prepares light snacks for recreational programs as necessary.
      • Maintains adequate supply of tools and equipment for food preparation, service and dining.
      • Promotes and maintains positive communication and relationships among team members, Residents and the public.
      • Assists with Resident Council and Dining Committee Meetings.
      • Attends all staff training/ information sessions/ meetings as required.
      • Responsible for reporting all noticeable changes in Resident behaviour.
      • Provides assistance to all other team members when required.
      • Reports all concerns to the Operations Manager in a timely manner.
      • Other related tasks as assigned.

      QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Grade 12 Education or equivalent
      • FOODSAFE Certification (to be renewed every 3 years)
      • First Aid Certification (to be renewed upon expiry)
      • A clear Police Criminal Record Check and a clear Solicitor General Criminal Record Check
      • WHMIS Certification (to be renewed annually)
      • Able to effectively use a computer and electronic devises
      • Experience cooking within a Senior’s facility or experience in a related setting an asset.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
      • Experience with general meal cooking and preparation duties.
      • Knowledge of the Canadian National Food Guide.
      • Knowledge regarding texture modifications and implementation.
      • Experience in working with Seniors; preferably in an Assisted Living or Residential Care setting.
      • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with Residents, families, co-workers, members of the multi-disciplinary team and the public.
      • Ability to organize work and implement in a timely manner.
      • Ability to operate related equipment.
      • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

      Beacon Community Services Thrift Shops operate throughout the CRD. Each location serves individuals in the community by providing quality items at affordable prices. Our Thrift Shops are a success due to our team of dedicated volunteers and staff. The Assistant Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Thrift Shop in the absence of the Manager.

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
      • Ensuring that the thrift shop donation depot is a safe environment for staff, volunteers and customers by following the Beacon Community Services Health and Safety Program and Policy and Procedures.
      • Following Donation Safety Guidelines - Accepting donations, sorting, pricing items and politely declining unsellable items.
      • Prepare deliveries for Brentwood and Victoria Thrift Shops.
      • Transport items between all 3 Sidney Thrift Shops.
      • Keep thrift shops stocked with clothes, and other items as required by the volunteers.
      • Recruiting and training new volunteers – in conjunction with the manager, as to the policies and procedures of the shop. Ensuring volunteers know that they are a vital part of the success of the organization.
      • Support volunteers. Welcome, engage, and thank the volunteers every shift.
      • Direct any donation pick up inquiries to Thrift on Fourth.
      • Retail layout and display – frequent walks throughout the shop daily to maintain organization and cleanliness, and putting new items on the appropriate shop shelves
      • Customer service – assisting volunteers with daily duties, assist customers with loading items into their vehicles, informing customers of our policies and procedures and ensuring there is consistency with them for all shifts.
      • Maintaining a clean depot area – daily trash and recycling removal, clean floors when possible, keep outside area clean and organized.
      • Communicate with the manager any feedback or ideas for the thrift shops.
      • Communication – ensure other staff members and volunteers are aware of any policy changes or shop issues, creating a team atmosphere – all of the shops are working for the same organization, keeping Thrift Shop Manager and Director of Thrift Shops up to date with all issues, concerns, information of the shop.

       Opening and closing of stores, daily cash reports, bank deposits and maintaining an extra
      float
       Inputting daily cash reports into the computer as directed by the manager
       Assisting in the recruitment and training of new volunteers
       Overall volunteer support in running shops and ensuring volunteers know they are a vital
      part of the success of the organization. Welcome, engage, and thank the volunteers every
      shift.
       Arrange, schedule, accept, and screen donation pickups and furniture deliveries as needed
      using posted information and criteria following donation safety guidelines
       Consistently monitors retail layout and display with frequent walks throughout the shop daily
      to maintain organization and cleanliness, colour blocking, regularly updating floor displays to
      attract customers to the shop
       Providing a high level of customer service through sales assistance, answering and returning
      phone calls, helping to load items into vehicles for customers as needed, and informing
      customers of our policies and procedures
       Maintaining clean shops with daily trash and recycling removal, floors swept and shelves
      dusted, change rooms empty and the floor and front counter are clear at the end of the day
       Using a communication book as a tool to convey current, relevant information to the
      managers working alternate shifts, communicate feedback or ideas to the thrift shop
      manager
       Ensuring other staff members and volunteers are aware of any policy changes or shop issues,
      creating and supporting a team atmosphere
       Be familiar with Thrift Shop operations in all locations with ability to convey general
      knowledge of Beacon Community Services

      At the SHOAL Activity Centre, we utilize a multi-dimensional approach in the provision of community services by combining recreation, volunteer services and food services. The Centre also houses residents in Assisted Living and Independent Living units. Under the direction of the Director of SHOAL Centre, the Food Service Worker joins the hospitality team performing a variety of food service duties and assists cooking staff as needed.

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
      • Setting up dining areas, delivering and putting away supplies, and serving food and beverages
      • Accepts cash and/or meal tickets for food items
      • Performs limited food preparation and makes tea and coffee
      • Washes dishes using commercial dishwasher and/or by hand
      • Performs cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning sinks and counters, cleaning kitchen and storage areas and removing garbage
      • Stores and checks supplies and performs inventory control
      • Records information in log book and on meal cards
      • Performs other related duties as assigned

      QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Minimum 16 years of age and a Grade 10 Education
      • FOODSAFE Certification (to be renewed every 3 years)
