The Victoria Film Festival is back to chase away your February greys with a return to Sidney. After the smashing success of the 2017 line-up, the VFF is bringing more must-see films from around the world to the Star Cinema from February 2 -11, 2018.

With multiple sell-outs during the 2017 Festival – including Maudie, Burn Your Maps, Marie Curie: The Courage of Knowledge – 2018 promises to be another exciting year. With daily screenings, downtown Sidney will be buzzing with films and special guests.

Here is a sneak peek of the films from the VFF Official Selection, that we're excited about:

Meditation Park

VICTORIA PREMIERE Director: Mina Shum Country: Canada/BC Year: 2017 Runtime: 94 minutes
Maria has spent her life being a devoted wife and mother. Never questioning her husband Bing’s authority as a provider and excusing his vices, she has willingly followed his wishes, including not speaking to their estranged son. While doing his laundry, her world is turned upside down when she discovers lingerie tucked away in his pants’ pocket. Unable to look past his hurtful deception any longer, she takes matters into her own hands.

Tulipani, Love Honour and a Bicycle

BC PREMIERE Director: Mike Van Diem Country: Italy/Netherlands Year: 2017 Runtime: 90 min
Old fashioned and refreshing, van Diem’s latest is a wonderfully engaging tale that travels across three countries to reveal a bizarre family history. Anna (Ksenia Solo) has arrived in Italy to return her guardian’s ashes to her hometown. What she didn’t count on was learning the story of her parents, which with years of retelling, has taken on, shall we say, a certain exaggerated fair.

Ethel & Ernest

BC PREMIERE Director: Roger Mainwood Country: UK Year: 2016 Runtime: 94 min
Based on an award-winning book by acclaimed British author and illustrator Raymond Briggs, this beautifully hand-drawn film tells the true story of Raymond's own parents Ethel and Ernest - two ordinary Londoners living through a period of extraordinary social change in twentieth century Britain (featuring the voices of Brenda Blethyn and Jim Broadbent).

Ethel & Ernest is part of a new program featuring U.K. films during the 2018 festival. This year’s Festival Official Selection will be highlighted by films selected by additional programmers to broaden the scope of its international content.

The full festival lineup and program won’t be released until Jan 8th, but the Sidney Passes 2018 are now on sale.
